What is Participation Living Coaching?
First: what it is not. It is not a directive to join more groups, be more productive, or be/do/think more anything.
Participation coaching asks the question: How do you want to participate in your life? This question is asked in the micro sense and the macro sense and everywhere in between. How do you want to participate in your survival and the care of your physical body (the micro)? How do you want to participate in the arc of your life, your family’s life, your community’s life, and humanity’s life (the macro)?
There’s a lot in this question “How do you want to participate in your life?”, so let’s break it down a little. Participate: [definition]. This word invites us to show up, acknowledge where we give our attention, be present with what is happening within us and around us. Participation can look a lot of different ways, from action to non-action. The next part is “your life”. The invitation here is to ask: what is uniquely yours to contribute to the co-creation of the expanding universe? Contribution, like participation, evokes a certain energy of doing, but we must be curious: what does contribution mean situationally – for you and in what context? What is the calling for participation in your present moment, and what is that calling for your larger story?

Having been through the journey of addiction and recovery myself, I provide a very empathetic and non-judgemental presence to support your journey. My sobriety coaching uses the same principles as Participation Living Coaching and applies them to finding your way through addiction and recovery. We will focus on your why and build strength from there.
This coaching methodology could pair very nicely with the crafting and coaching offering! In my own lived experience, handiwork played an important role in fostering wholesomeness and creativity in the newly bare moments.

Creative Living Coaching applied to your career: maybe you are trying to find more satisfaction in your role, or you want to explore your other options. Like Creative Living Coaching, this approach focuses on what is meaningful to you and how you can find the most creative expression of yourself in your work. Having worked in the software engineering field for several decades, first as an individual contributor and then as a manager, I understand the unique challenges of this domain.

When we engage in creative activities, different parts of our brains engage. This can lead to different ways of thinking about our lives. In crafting and coaching, we’ll use creativity to get into a state of flow, and then we’ll check back in about the questions on the table and see what has emerged.
This coaching methodology can also be useful for folks who might feel intimidated or less excited by the idea of sitting and talking back and forth!
I can teach you a simple craft like sashiko embroidery or peg loom weaving, or you can bring your own! You can see some examples of things I like to make on the fiber arts page.
